Vandals have smashed a Victorian leaded glass window at a church, causing £2,000 damage.

It is believed they got into St Nicolas in Shoreham and used a wooden chair to wreck the window.

Churchwarden Sue Bartlett said: “It’s just very upsetting for the congregation. I just want to ask, why did you do it? It just seems mindless.”

It is the third time vandals have struck at the Grade I listed building. Two other windows, one valuable stained glass, were smashed in 2020 and 2021.

Sussex Police said: “We received a report of criminal damage at St Nicolas Church, St Nicolas Lane, Shoreham which is believed to have taken place between 9am and 4pm on 25 April.

"At this time, the investigation has been filed as no reasonable lines of enquiry have been identified.

"Witnesses or anyone with any information or footage is asked to contact police online or call 101 quoting serial 059 of 27/04.”
